Subject: 2009 All Star Team Selection Process and Eligibility Requirements

As the 2009 Cupertino National Little League regular season comes to a close, it is time to begin preparing for post-season activities. Over the next several weeks, three All Star teams will be selected to represent CNLL from the ranks of the Major/Minor players. Player voting will take place over the next few weeks and managers will meet for final selection of the All Star teams in early June. The final results will be announced June 14th, after the last day of regular season play.

The CNLL Board of Directors is strongly encouraging all managers and players to use the following criteria as a guideline in the selection of the All Star teams:

  • The goal of the All Star Selection process is to select players whose performance in hitting, fielding, base running, game knowledge, leadership, and teamwork will create collectively the best All Star team possible. Additional criteria that should be considered are:
    • Selection should be based on the performance during the current season only
    • Player should be a good representative of CNLL
    • Player should have the capability and willingness to play multiple positions

Additionally, “The objective of the 9-10 Year Old Division and 10-11 Year Old Division Tournament is to provide nine and ten year old players and ten and eleven year old payers, the opportunity to participate in a baseball tournament at the District, Sectional and State levels at the conclusion of the regular season.”

Being selected to the 11/12 All Star team, 10/11 All Star team, or the 9/10 All Star team is an honor and requires a significant time commitment by the player and the player’s family (potentially through the middle of July). Players will be expected to attend all scheduled practices and games. Little League prohibits the naming of alternate players. A player who leaves the team can be replaced, but once replaced cannot return to the team.

Player and parent All Star obligations:

  • Player will be available for all scheduled practices and games (potentially through the middle of July)
  • Player can provide an original proof of age document – PLEASE NOTE: Little League rules and regulations are extremely rigid regarding proof of age documentation and if selected, you will be required to provide ORIGINAL PROOF OF AGE DOCUMENTATION. I would recommend that parents of potential All Star team members get their proof of age documentation in order and ready for immediate presentation. Original proof of age documentation is an original birth certificate ONLY. Photocopies will NOT be accepted and passports will not be accepted. The original documents will be collected by the Player Agent and presented to the District Administrator. All originals will be returned.
  • Player meets residency requirements (copy of current PG&E bill may be requested)
  • Player has participated in at least 50% of regular season games
  • Parents must be willing to volunteer at least 10 hours during this period to help with facilities/field preparation, tournament games, snack shack duty, etc.
  • All Star play is extremely competitive. District 44 of Little League strongly encourages All Star teams to “play to win”. In addition, minimum play rules are different during the All Star tournament compared to the regular season. Players may be subject to less playing time compared to the regular season.
  • Parents and players must be supportive of manager’s decisions on playing positions and playing time during the All Star tournament.

If you and your son/daughter cannot commit to the above listed obligations, please let your manager know immediately so their name can be removed for consideration to All Stars. Also, please feel free to contact me as president at CNLL.org with any questions or concerns.
