CNLL Volunteer Positions
CNLL is entirely a volunteer-run organization. Without you and everyone else stepping up to help out, we could not manage this for the kids.
We Can Use Everyone's Help
Almost every family is involved in some role with their child's team, whether it is team parent, carpool organizer, taking shifts in our snack shack, or even stepping up to help with coaching or umpiring. In this way each team is made to be much more successful. However, CNLL needs volunteers to take up roles beyond the team in order to have a league in which these teams can play.
Many of the league volunteers roles are small, simple tasks, but if we don't get enough people to fill the roles then it can increase the burdens on all of us.
CNLL serves around 200 to 400 players. To fill all of the key roles takes about two dozen people. The tasks can be covered with about a dozen people with a bit of extra effort. However, with only a half-dozen people doing the work then the burdens can get heavy.
Looking at any team in the league, at least one parent will be managing or coaching. However, if we could get one other parent from each team to take on a board-level role, then we would have enough hands that the work level becomes very light (even ceremonial). Any time there is a game between CNLL Majors or Minors, or even Farm-level teams, ideally there should be a couple of league volunteers in the stands -- if you look around at your team and do not see one or two people volunteering beyond the team, then we need you to step in and fill the gaps.
Please don’t assume we can do this without your help, we cannot. We need you. If you're not sure what you can do or think you don’t know enough about CNLL or baseball don’t worry, there is plenty of information and help to get you started. No experience is needed. We need new members to get involved, to champion the ideals of CNLL, and carry on the traditions of community baseball for the next generation of our youth.
Regular Roles and Responsibilities
While the exact roles shift according to what talents we have available each season, the following is a list of positions that are commonly on our roster. This season's roster can be found on our Board page.
- President
- Manage overall operations of CNLL, represent CNLL at District 44 meetings. [One for the league.]
- Vice-President
- Help offload the President from having to do everything. [One for the league.]
- Player Agent
- There is a player agent for each of the divisions within CNLL: Juniors, Majors, Minors, Farm, TBall (though TBall and Farm are often covered by one person). The Player Agent is responsible for ensuring that all the players are properly managed -- this means that they usually work with the Team Managers to make sure all of the kids are properly placed, that the games and the schedules are fair, etc. [4 to 6 positions in the league.]
- Team Managers
- Each team needs a head coach, responsible for growth and the play of all of the players on his team. [4 to 6 positions within each division in CNLL]
- Team Coaches
- Each team needs many coaches, but most teams end up with at least one or two who are recognized as taking on a major role with the team. [Another 4 to 6 positions within each division in CNLL.]
- Head Umpire
- Responsible for all umpiring within CNLL. Arranges for training in the Spring, and resolves all disputes. [One for the league, can use assistants.]
- Umpire Coordinator
- Manages the game schedules to ensure that qualified umpires are available at each game. [One for the league.]
- Game Umpires
- Umpire behind the plate or in the field for each game. Anyone 12-or-older can take the training and apply. We can always use more family members to help here. [30 positions in CNLL.]
- Treasurer
- Keep CNLL's books in order, ensure that our (simple) taxes are filed, etc. [2 positions in CNLL.]
- Safety Officer
- The safety of the players in CNLL is of course a key concern -- this role helps the league refresh our procedures and our equipment to keep us all safe. [2 positions in CNLL.]
- Equipment Manager
- Baseball has a lot of stuff and a Team Manager's bag is full of it all (catchers' mitts, batts, and lots and lots of balls). We need one or two people to obtain what we need and to make sure each manager gets their share. [2 positions available.]
- Uniform Distribution Manager
- Need people to ensure that each team gets the right uniforms, and that all the right materials are returned at the end of the season. [2 positions in CNLL.]
- Sponsor Coordinator
- Help recruit and organize corporate or other sponsors for CNLL. [4 positions in CNLL.]
- Snack Shack Coordinator
- Some of the best behind-the-scenes jobs. While most of the work of operating the Snack Shack is done by the parents covering their teams' assigned shifts, the Snack Shack needs people to manage schedules, replenish supplies, help with the bookkeeping, and manage the organization. [4 positions in CNLL.]
- Post Season Tournament Directors
- CNLL is tasked by District 44 to host our share of the post-season tournament play, these folks help ensure that the games we host are successful. [5 positions in CNLL.]
